As Tom always said, let it hit red on the meters, saturate the tape. The first 6 tracks are 8-28-92; the rest of the tracks are another session on the same tape but is labeled "unknown date". Guessing it's around the same time. Both sessions have guitar and harp mixed low; better than too high but it would be nice to have a bit more of Larry in the mix. Charles is loud and clear - as he should be.\ \ First track - \cf0 Don't Cry No More - is a fun song but I don't think Charles ever got back to it. Ditto for the second song. The rest of the 8-28 tracks are Charles being soulful - good stuff.\cf0 \ \ The undated session starts out with Charles and Larry noodling around before going into Scratch My Back - the gig intro song they had been working on (see Magnolia YST on 1992-09-05). Relating the practice sessions to the live gigs, Bernie (bass) over in Jacksonville would not be at practice, and Stretch the hired gun \cf0 (drums) \cf0 did not do practice. Flip Flop Fly is something Charles still plays; if you ever get a chance to sit in with him you should know this one. The next 2 - \cf0 Devil In Disguise & News Is Bad -\cf0 are a great pair; powerful vocals.\ \ Harty's song gets cut short - dang. Then it a work-thru on Kiddio before a nice slow CC Ryder. Second take is a bit faster. After this, the session and taping break down some; they're just playing "lil bits" of songs, going thru the setlist, and the taping chops it up more. Larry's cowbell comes out which means he had enough blowing but then he's back for some nice touches on The Thrill Is Gone. Lovelight is the shortest version ever but spot on. Last track is Charles playing around on the Rhodes as the Boys BS in the back.\ \ Super Bowl Sunday 2009 Coming up soon are live gigs -- more at Magnolia and Grand Finale, then Bullwinkles and Dave's CC, and an interview with Tallahassee's own Dr. Blues. Enjoy! SCopeland\ \ \ }
